Welcome to Pudding Month!

The first rule of Pudding Month is that any mention of the word ‘calories’ is strictly forbidden.

The second rule is that I can make anything that can justifiably be classified as a pudding, rather than a dessert. But what is the difference between a pudding and a dessert I hear you cry?

The most logical description I have heard is that puddings are served hot and desserts are cold. However this in no way describes the wonderfulness the word ‘pudding’ conjures up in my head. For me it means comforting warmth and borderline stodge, childhood memories and cosy kitchens. It’s squishy, sometimes custard covered, sometimes sickly sweet and the perfect antidote to February: possibly the most depressing month of the year.

So let’s petition the government to make February National Pudding Month (and throw in another bank holiday whilst they’re at it) we’ll batten down the hatches and have a great big stodge-filled cook-in and not come out again until the weather’s a bit nicer…

…and with a plan like this maybe February isn’t looking so bad after all.
